Elmwood Station

by Sarah Bauhan

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

It’s been ten years since the release of my last album, Lathrop’s Waltz. Life has been rich and full in the interim, but I am pleased to finally release Elmwood Station, named for a long-gone railway station. Growing up in Peterborough, NH some of my earliest memories were of the Boston and Maine freight trains running along rt 202 in front of our house at Noone Mills. The rail line shut down in the late ’60s. Fast forward many decades to my move to Hancock with my sweetie, Jane Eklund. We started walking on the rail trails around us on the northeast edge of Hancock – only to discover that there was once a thriving railway junction and station there for a window of about 50 years. Being a history buff and train nut, I began to explore and discovered that this was the same rail line as the one in my early years –The Worcester-Concord line. At Elmwood Junction, it crossed with the Manchester & Keene line, and in addition to passengers, these trains carried local farm produce and milk from the area “to market.” I love the full-circled-ness of all of this and feel like I’m just “up the line” from where I started!
