about

Contrary to popular opinion I didn’t actually write this waltz. This is another gem from Bob McQuillen, bound to go down in the history of great waltzes. He wrote it for Leaf when the three of us were in Scotland in the summer of ‘92.

Leaf's poem inspired the name of the album:

What the Wellies Overhear on the Isle of Mull

The untamed grasses tickling
the clear belly of sky
caught beneath
as we squish through
ground plump with stories,
the mist unfurling secrets
to the intricate workings
of villages blossoming
in the scrub brush
as we leap over
the world chattering around our ankles.
